It’s true: We all want to take better care of our skin. It’s just that doing so isn’t always easy. Who has the time for complicated skincare routines involving a tonne of products? Don’t worry – we have you covered. We have five expert tips for creating a simple-to-follow skincare routine that does wonders for your complexion.
1. Get concentrated with your cleansing!
Cleansing is known to remove toxins, improve skin tone and tighten pores. However, maximising the effectiveness of your cleanser involves a focussed approach – you should identify where you have the most pores and then concentrate your cleanser in these locations.
This approach is more effective at cleaning out dirt and oil and allows the skincare products you apply after to be truly absorbed, rather than blocked by any residual grime left in your pores. Within our regimen, we recommend the natural cleansing power of the Lemon Myrtle Cleanser.
2. Ace your exfoliation routine.
As we age, we begin to lose radiance because our cellular turnover slows down. So we end up with dead skin cells on the surface of our skin, causing our reflection to look dull. Regular exfoliation is key to stimulating skin cell turnover and creating a brighter complexion.
Experts agree that exfoliating once a week is not enough for most skin types, the suggestion is two to three times a week (daily is waaay too much). It’s important to find an exfoliant that won’t be too harsh on your skin. The Cactus Skincare Gentle Exfoliant removes dead skin cells and impurities with the gentle, effective power of joboba beads and noticeably brightens and improves skin tone.
3. The best time to apply your serum is on DAMP skin.
The ideal time to apply face serums is right after cleansing or a shower.
If you haven’t had a chance to apply the serum within one minute of showering or cleansing, then you’ll need to dampen your skin before applying. This is because damp skin is easier to penetrate than dry skin and so you’ll be able to maximise the magic of serum.
If you’re looking to give your skin a boost (regardless of skin type), or if you’re looking to amplify hydration for dry skin in combination with a moisturiser, try applying this light-feel Moisture Boost Serum. It aids with the repair of dry skin and leaves a hydrated glow.
4. Layering products is key!
When we’re using multiple products on our skin, it can be easy to mix up the order they should be applied. After you’ve cleansed, serums always go first. Serums powerfully target what your skin needs, whether it’s hydration, repair, hyperpigmentation or anti-aging, you don’t want to block their effectiveness by applying cream first.
A good rule of thumb is: apply thinnest to thickest – so cleanse, apply serum/s, then face cream and finally sunscreen.
5. Your AM to PM routine should be different.
It’s not as effective to have exactly the same skincare routine for morning and night. Your morning routine should be focused on protecting your skin from pollution and sun, while night is when your skin regenerates itself so your routine should be centred around repair.
The Light Balancing Crème is perfect for your morning routine. It has a lightweight feel and leaves a matte finish and is an ideal cream to be used under sunscreen.
Ample hydration overnight is super important for skin restructuring and repair. Apply the Intense Hydrating Crème as a night treatment to enrich skin during sleep cycle restoration and you’ll feel the results.
