So? You want to know more about what might be going on your skin? Good for you! We love talking about skin, so this is a nice opportunity for me to grab a cup of tea and do a bit of writing.
Ok! Let's get into it!
This is going to look after you as you cleanse your skin in the morning and again at night. It's a creme cleanser which means it doesn't foam. Most cleansers (especially if they foam/bubble) use an ingredient called Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or SLS.
SLS is a cheap ingredient that you can also find in household detergents and while it's fun to make bubbles (who doesn't like bubbles...) it can strip your skin of it's vital acid mantle (protective layer of oils covering your skin). You need your acid mantle to help protect your skin from free radical damage. A good way to think of your acid mantle is to think of the skin on an apple. When you first take a bite of the apple, the flesh underneath is healthy and undamaged, but within a few minutes it starts to show signs of decay, well the same thing is happening with your skin.
Your skin is under attack from free radicals and your acid mantle helps protect you from that. So you need it. The lemon Myrtle Cleanser use Apricot Kernel Oil (which has it's own anti-oxidant and calming properties) as a carrier oil to take with it the anti-fungal, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties of the Lemon Myrtle Cleanser. Apricot Kernal Oil is molecularly structured so finely as to be able to dive deep into pores taking with it the Lemon Myrtle Oil to do the business of cleaning out pores without stripping your skin of it's acid mantle.
Once you've done your morning cleanse it's onto your day creme, the Light Balancing Creme. This is basically going to help regulate your oil production. The assumption is that maybe you struggle with pimples? Or excessive oil? Well, we don't want to get rid of your oil... you need it, but we can get it under control. Sometimes oil skin folk think they need an oil free moisturiser... well... if you have no oil on your skin, your pores go into over-drive producing more oil to compensate and in the rush to your skin those oils can get blocked causing pimples. So we don't want that.
The jojoba oil contained within the Light Balancing Creme is very similar to your skin's own natural sebum and furthermore is theorised to 'trick' the skin into believe it's produced enough oil so calms it down.
Then the citrus oils help to dissolve and distribute heavier oils around the face to areas where they may be needed more.
Ok! Night time! At night your skin goes into repair mode, so it can handle a bit of a heavier creme so this one is awesome for a bit of repair at night. It's our most Anti-Oxidant Rich product and is great if you've taken a bit of sun damage, or if you get the odd dry area or if you just want to make sure you're maintaining your skin properly.
The way anti-oxidants work is basically this... remember those free radicals I was talking about? And how your acid mantle protects you from them? Well, they're basically cells with only one electron. Only cells really want to have 2 electrons, so they steal an electron from a healthy cell and then make that one unhealthy.
An anti-oxidant donates an electron and so makes the free radical whole again and stops bothering the other healthy cells who were all minding their business and a crisis is averted.
So there are adventures being had on your face at night! At least that's how I like to think of it...
Now... while I don't like picking favourites, this is kind of a favourite because with this little bad boy you will often see a difference within one application of 15-20 minutes. It sometimes stings a little bit upon first application or if you've had a big night (more toxins to remove) and that's reasonably normal. The more toxins you have in your skin, the more it will sting (but only for a minute or 2 then it calms down). Some people feel it more than others but if you just want to test a little bit behind an ear first to get comfortable maybe that's a good idea.
I love it when it stings a bit, reminds me that it's doing something special. Feels good to get that week of toxins out!
The White Clay Mask is actually really complex and so interesting to hear how it works, so if you want to really get into the details of how it works, our founder Deborah wrote an awesome article which you can find here:
